ICAP PRACTICE TIPS > Habits and Tendencies

An excellent practice to use with the ICAP™ Release Meter System is to begin noticing and working with habits in our day-to-day lives. Habits are automatic behavior that either gets in our way or aids us in staying with the flow in our life. The ICAP™ Release Meter was created to show you when these habits are getting in your way because you'll see high scores when you work with those types of issues.

To discover your habits try a daily review. Sit with a piece of paper and review your day. Look for any occurances that feel like "events," any time you felt out of the flow or something "got a rise" out of you. Write down a short identifier of that event. Then, beside the event, write what emotion it inspired for you from the AGFLAP choices - Apathy, Grief, Fear, Lust, Anger, Pride? Keep page 20 and 21 from the ICAP Abundance Course Workbook next to you so you can read through the options as you work.

Once you finish your review, look at the list to see if any themes emerge for the day. Do you most often go toward one of the emotions? Were you trying to hold on to things at that time (attachment) or trying to get away from them (aversion)?

No need to beat yourself up or disapprove. Simply notice.

PRACTICE
Take your list and choose one situation that shows your reactive tendencies at work. Do
Audio 21 (Attachments and Aversions to Something General) in the Abundance Course (p. 55 and 56 in the book) using the situation you listed. This helps you to find the underlying reactive habits and remove them so that you begin to act consciously rather than from habit in similar situations in the future.

Another daily practice you might incorporate to help yourself clear old tendencies is to write your to do list or goals each morning and then do Audio 22 (Goals) with your ICAP™ Release Meter. This allows you to clear away your tendencies before you enter the day so you are able to move freely in any direction. We like to call it living without the brakes on!

A final practice alternative to work with your tendencies is to do one of the many clean-ups included in the Abundance Course at the end of each day to help let go of any left over emotional/reactive baggage. This allows you to end the day peacefully.
